About Us
“The Nickel”, as the locals call it, is owned by Glen Damewood who performed (and still performs!) there frequently with his bluegrass band. His love of fine food and creative cooking found a natural outlet here and he took possession of the establishment and things have never been the same! The Nickel is still the place to go for delicious food at an affordable price, while having a great time of course! With hand-crafted meats, home-grown veggies and freshly baked breads…you won’t find a better option!
In February of 1998, the Wooden Nickel expanded and opened a second restaurant in the heart of Sublimity, Oregon, located at 108 N Center St. One side of the facility offers family dining in a comfortable atmosphere. The other side is a full service bar complete with Oregon Lottery games. The characteristics of the Silverton Nickel have carried over into the ambiance of the Sublimity Nickel. They both have the same menu and relaxed home town atmosphere that youâve all grown to love.
Every Saturday night our Traeger Pellet Grills help us deliver our famous mouth watering Slow Smoked Prime Rib. Both Wooden Nickels offer a 14 oz regular cut, or an 8 oz petite cut. Along with the tradition of offering Prime Rib, the Nickel has been hand-crafting smoked german sausages since 1999.We offer these sausages in a variety of our Wooden Nickel signature dishes like our spicy jambalaya.
If some time has passed since your last visit or youâve never been in, we would like to invite you to come in and have a great meal and make a few new friends! From smoking, curing & barbecueing our own meats to baking our own fresh breads, buns & rolls, we take great pride in offering the best food around! Our menu offers a little something for everyone, from our famous Rectangle Hamburgers, St. Louis Style Ribs, Shrimp Yakisoba with Vegetables, Steaks and Jambalaya, to our hand-dipped chicken tenders & juicy Southern Fried Chicken.
If youâre needing a meal in a hurry, the Nickel makes all of its orders âto goâ, but if you have time, please come by and sit a spell. We welcome newcomers with great enthusiasm and we appreciate those of you who have been with us from day one. Itâs your loyalty that has helped us continually improve upon our growing establishments.
House-Smoked Meats
We have been hand-crafting our own smoked meats on the premises for two decades. You can order all our meats in any of our restaurants or enjoy it as part of your catering service.
Brisket
This slow smoked meat marinates in our Wooden Nickel house dry rub before we smoke it on the Traeger low and slow for hours. This is served in an original and petite cut every Saturday night with a loaf of our scratch brown bread, homemade soup or a fresh garden salad, your choice of potato and seasonal vegetables.
German Sausage
These are not always available but when they are, they are delicious!! Handcrafted bratwurst with sauerkraut, you just canât go wrong there.
Pork Belly
Both of these meats are brined, then smoked to perfection in our smoker. We offer these up daily on sandwiches, in salads and we create many other custom dishes, not featured on our daily menu. Ask for a sample the next time youâre in!
