 The Wooden Nickel has been a popular gathering place in Silverton, Oregonfor the last 40 years. In the 1950’s and 1960’s it was known as Ed & Johnny’s. Many current customers can remember their fathers and grandfathers playing cribbage around the horse-shoe shaped bar. During the 1970’s and 1980’s, some remodeling occurred adding room for a dance floor. Live music, shuffleboard and pinball were the craze and the Nickel, (as locals call it), was jam-packed on the weekends. In the mid 1980’s the current owner, Glen Damewood, performed there frequently with his bluegrass band. His love of fine food and creative cooking found a natural outlet here. The Nickel has become the place to for delicious food at a affordable price, while having a great time!
In February of 1998, the Wooden Nickel expanded and opened a second restaurant in the heart of Sublimity, Oregon. One side of the facility offers family dining in a comfortable atmosphere. The other side is a full service bar complete with Oregon Lottery games. The characteristics of the Silverton Nickel have carried over into the ambiance of the Sublimity Nickel. They both carry the same menu and relaxed home town atmosphere that you've all grown to love. Every Saturday night our Traeger Pellet Grills help us deliver our famous mouth watering Slow Smoked Prime Rib. Both Wooden Nickels offer 14 oz regular cut, or a 8 oz petite cut. Along with the tradition of offering Prime Rib, the Nickel has been hand-crafting, Smoked German and Bratwursts Sausages since 1999. This year we've released Red Hot Sausage as well. We offer these sausages not only in a variety of our Nickel Specials, but also ready to take home and enjoy. If some time has passed since your last visit or you've never been in. We have 26 new menu items, for you to enjoy. Along with our traditional Rectangle Hamburgers, BBQ Boneless Pork Ribs, Prawn Yakisoba with Vegetables, Steaks & Jambalaya. We have added Southern Fried Catfish, Slow Smoked BBQ Beef Brisket, Slow Smoked Pulled Pork as a entree, or a Po Boy Sandwich. St. Louis Style Pork Ribs, Chicken Pesto Primavera, Chicken Pasta Bella, Crisp Spinach Salad, New Orleans Style Barbecue Shrimp, just to name a few. There is an all new Cross The Border section as well, offering Pulled Pork Burritos, Chicken Enchiladas, Spicy Chicken Diablo or Acapulco, Spicy Las Cruces Shrimp and Turkey Quesadillas. If that's not enough we've completely eliminated trans fat from our menu, 21 of the 26 new items are healthy choice options. We've got the nutrition facts to prove it, just ask your server, and you'll see for your self. Calories, Fat & Protein grams listed for each healthy choice item. If you’re needing a meal in a hurry, the Nickel makes all of its orders “to go”, but if you have time, please come by and sit a spell.
